Advanced Game Mechanics

During my Masters Degree I was given the task to take two existing games and merge their game mechanics together. One of my favourite games growing up was Blizzard's The Lost Vikings on Super Nintendo as I enjoyed the puzzle system of having to use different characters to perform specific actions and figure out the correct order of which character to use in order to progress. One of my other favourite games growing up was The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords, however this was a four player game and when you played by yourself the other Link characters just followed your actions rather then being standalone characters.
So I took the inspiration of both games and merged them together to create a demo single player game that requires the player to use all four Links. Each Link character had their own unique ability. Green Link could attack and block with his sword to attack enemies and shield to block all enemies. Red Link could use his bow to hit targets and also hit enemies, whilst being protected by Green Link. Blue Link could interact with buttons, jump and swim. Finally Purple Link, I created a new unique ability where he would drink a potion and shrink or grow, similar to Alice in Wonderland, this was because I added a mechanic system where there were pressure plates that would only be activated by a certain weight.
The object of the demo was to get all the Links to the end of the maze like the simplicity of The Lost Vikings.
